Dr Joanne Younge
Dr Joanne Younge is an Old Age Psychiatrist with over 25 years’ experience supporting older adults in managing their mental health and memory concerns.
She offers appointments on a fortnightly basis at Dundonald Consulting Rooms and provides support for a wide range of needs, including:
Memory problems
Anxiety (panic disorder, phobias, social anxiety, health anxiety, GAD)
Depression
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Chronic pain management
Joanne completed her undergraduate medical training and postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health at Queen’s University Belfast and has over 30 years of clinical experience within Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland. She currently works as an Associate Specialist in Old Age Psychiatry and serves as Clinical Lead for the Toward Zero Suicide initiative in SEHSCT. Joanne is also a GMC-recognised trainer and Clinical Facilitator with the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency.
She provides thorough, person-centred mental health assessments for older adults (65+) who have memory concerns or are experiencing difficulties with low mood, anxiety, obsessive thoughts or trauma symptoms. Where appropriate, she can recommend further investigations or referrals, provide a clear diagnosis and treatment plan, and arrange follow-up care. (GP referral is required.)
As a BABCP-accredited Cognitive Psychotherapist with 20 years’ experience, Joanne holds an MSc in Specialist Cognitive Therapy (with Distinction), is a CBT trainer and supervisor, and co-author of a CBT textbook. This unique combination of expertise allows her to offer evidence-based CBT treatment, where appropriate, for adults aged 18+ living with mental health conditions.
